Juvenile Firesetting Skills Building Workshops

Originally developed for The National Association of State Fire Marshals, these workshops build effective information gathering, communication and presentation skills for fire service, mental health professionals and others working with children who set fires.

Workshop participants receive:

  • Training customized to their needs and background, whether they are fire service, mental health professionals or social service workers
  • Demonstrations of educatonal interventions
  • The opportunity to share experiences, knowledge and ideas through discussion, observation and demonstration of typical interview situations
  • A CD version of Juvenile Firesetting: A Community Guide to Prevention and Intervention a book developed by Fireproof Children/Prevention First which shares more than 25 years of research and hands-on experience by fire investigators and child development experts.

Workshop participants learn:

  • Roles off Fire Service and of Mental Health / Social Service 
  • Community Approach to Juvenile Fire Intervention and Prevention
  • Information Gathering and Interview Preparation

  • Judging Truthfulness
  • Age Specific Considerations for Children and Adolescents
  • How to Conduct Preventive Fire Safety Education and Interventions
